- Description
- 金剛山 瀑㳍—Waterfall in Mt. Geumgang—is written at the bottom of the painting, with a misspelling of the last character, which is originally “布 (to unfold).” Mountain ranges are portrayed in black bold strokes recalling the traditional painting methods of depicting mountains and rocks, with cascading waterfalls painted over in blue. Untitled is reminiscent of traditional Korean paintings of Mt. Geumgang’s Manpok Valley. In 2004, when Nam June Paik was asked in an interview with the Korean press what he would most like to do when he returns to Korea, he answered that he would like to visit Mt. Geumgang, where he visited with his family when he was three years old.
