- Description
- Beuys Vox, as indicated in the title meaning “Beuys’s voice,” reflects the profound relationship between Nam June Paik and Joseph Beuys who was one of the closest colleagues for Paik. Four years after Beuys passed away in 1986, Paik staged a shamanistic ritual for Beuys titled “A Memorial Performance for Beuys” at Gallery Hyundai in 1990, and produced Beuys Vox comprised of a total of 21 objects to commemorate him in various respects. Highlights of Beuys Vox include: a photograph that captured both artists at the Gruppe Zero’s exhibition in 1961 when they did not know each other well; a photograph of Beuys’s note where he signed his name as “Josef” retrieved from Paik’s notebook in 1962; photographs of the 24 Hours performance in 1965, which both artists participated; and ten photographs of their joint duet performance, In Memorium George Maciunas in 1978, and the vinyls including two live recording of the concert.
