Description
“Waterfall in Mt. Geumgang” is written at the bottom of the drawing with a typo of the last character, which is originally “布 (to unfold).” While one can identify the subject matter from its title, the drawing differs from Nam June Paik’s other paintings of the same subject. Whereas the painting looks like a recognizable landscape painting, this drawing is closer to a design pattern with elongated triangular forms in green filled with meandering lines of different colors. Birds that resemble a boomerang fly over the mountains; the “v” sign was frequently used by Paik to symbolize the TV antenna, which may imply Paik’s attempt to recompose Mt. Geumgang that he was unable to go, as a broadcast image.
