- Variations V was composed in 1965 by Cage for the Merce Cunningham Dance Company in collaboration with many engineers and artists including Paik. Cage set up sound systems to be affected by the dancers’ movements, and Stan VanDerBeek’s film footage and Paik’s manipulated television images were projected on screen behind the dancers. At each performance, the sound score would vary with radio antennas responding to the dancers’ movements.
