- Description
- The ‘V’ shape attached to the upper-right corner of the square indicates that this work represents a television set with an antenna. Upon closer look at the seated figure on the screen, one can see a dot at the center of the torso with one of the hands pointing upward, which may imply a Buddha statue. Nam June Paik often added a seated statue of the Buddha in images of television. This recalls a paragraph of the essay, which Paik wrote regarding the video synthesizer that he invented with Shuya Abe. “Darma was so diligent for 9 years in sitting and meditating that he did not even to men’s room. … The accumulated shit eventually melted away his limbs and Darma become toe be loved as a Buddha without legs … this leg-less man’s wireless transmission is all what TV is about today … and in coming carless society.” Name of Abe is written in Japanese in the bottom of the work.
