- Description
- Eun-mee Ahn is a dancer and choreographer who juxtapose Korean traditional dance with modern aesthetics. Ahn is often inspired by traditional stories, from which she reinterprets and creates a performance by combining choreography with ornate costumes and unique music. Ahn was awarded the first Nam June Paik Art Center Prize in 2009 and produced Chronicle of a Beautiful Dancer in celebration of the prize. Parodying Chronicle of a Beautiful Paintress, the score dedicated to Alison Knowles by Nam June Paik, Ahn’s work comprises of 12 photographs of Ahn in a wedding dress, along with remnants of the performance, Nam June Paik Rhapsody, held during the opening ceremony of the Nam June Paik Art Center Prize, in November 28th, 2009. The work includes many elements that are related to Paik. The 12 photographs juxtapose Ahn with images of Paik’s works; the wedding dress that Ahn wears is made with white neckties, reminiscent of Paik’s performance, Study for Piano Forte, where Paik cut off John Cage’s tie.
