- Paik created x is y, y is x ― big drawing with TV on the TV guide pages for WNET’s broadcasting of Global Groove (1973) alongside the advertisement of the video art program, published in the New York Times on January 30th, 1974. Paik has put speech bubbles to his photographs printed on pages 70 and 71, respectively, and wrote “x is y” and “y is x” next to each picture. At the center of the two pages, the artist has also drawn a square, reminiscent of a television. The advertisement of Global Groove described video art as a new experience. The fact that video art was regarded as one of the TV programs is interesting, as this provides a hint of the climate of the 1970s when the audience of video art was not yet to be distinguished from those of TV programs.
