- Description
- TV Fish is a representative work of Nam June Paik, who wanted to reinvent the relationship between nature, machines, and human beings. Twenty-four television sets are placed behind a row of twenty four fish tanks. The monitor features a dancing Merce Cunningham, a fish swimming in the sea, and an airplane flying through the sky. Living fish are swimming in the actual fishbowl. The superimposition of a fish tank and a television monitor spatiotemporally combines a real fish with a video image of fish. Each being is in harmony while maintaining a nervous system. Nam June Paik emphasized the coexistence of technology and nature through a contrast of the vividness of the screen created by the technology with the actual living nature.
